About
Sue Looker
BA (Hons) Interdisciplinary Fine Art
My paintings develop from a personal response to the atmosphere of a place, a memory, or perhaps the history and associations linked to an everyday object. From the initial line on a canvas, the process takes over and elements of design and mark-making begin to portray their own narrative, moving away from direct representation.
My ceramic work touches on aspects of landscape, nature and vintage objects. Hand built stoneware pots with textures and irregular edges hint at the ageing process, wear and tear. Glazes embrace colours of the land and sea, and the use of oxides lean towards an industrial element.
